In 1996, DC Comics released Kingdom Come, a four issue comic book mini-series written by …
New York Comic Con is officially days away and you’ve already received your pass in the mail.
The only problem is your comic book trivia is not up to snuff and you don’t have the funds to purchase all the back issues of comic books that would help you save face. You want to be part of the party and not look like a poser but you’re on a budget.
Here’s what you do.
- Go get a Netflix & Hulu account.
- Start binge watching now!
So what are you supposed to be binge watching? Note that New York ComicCon isn’t only about comics these days. It’s evolved into a pop culture gathering with cast member panels of shows like Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (a personal favorite), the animators at Rooster Teeth (creators of Red Vs. Blue and RWBY) along with screenings of popular series like “Legend of Korra: Book 4”, a spin-off of the wildly successful “Avatar: The Last Air Bender” animated series. Of course you get discussions about popular cartoons and comic books that still form the foundation of the convention.
In other words, you should be fine as long as you haven’t been hidden away in a bomb shelter since the 1950’s.
However, if you have been whiling away the decades underground and you’re trying to not look like a goober, these are some of the series you may want to binge watch between now and the convention to get yourself up to speed:
(The below list is not in any particular order)
- Batman Beyond
- Young Justice
- Justice League Unlimited
- Justice League
- Astonishing X-Men
- The Avenger’s: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
- Doctor Strange
- Wolverine and the X-men
- Doctor Who (old and new episodes)
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars (animated series)
- Sleepy Hallow
- Agents of Shield
- Legend of Korra
- Once Upon a Time
Time to hit the books… um, I mean streaming services! We’ll see you at New York Comic Con!
…and don’t worry if you don’t have a costume this year. There’s always next.
